Peter Cavell is a playwright, writer of speculative fiction, composer, sound-artist, and performer.
As a writer, his scripts have been produced across North America. Recent productions include There Goes the Neighbourhood (May 2010, The Renaissance Guild, San Antonio), Tales of the Midnight Carnival (January 2010, Fort Point Theatre Channel, Boston), and Happily Ever After (June 2009, 11:11 Theatre, Boston).
Peter studied classical composition at the University of Western Ontario, and completed a Masters degree in composition at the University of Victoria in 2006. He has written for a wide variety of instruments and ensembles, and has worked extensively with electroacoustic media. Lately, his primary focus has shifted to musical theatre, as well as classical works which blend music and theatre. Recent endeavours include original music for Maude-Lynne Sells Out! in the 2010 Toronto Fringe (Nobody's Business Theatre), an original musical called Death!, and a range of short song-cycles and standalone songs.
When not writing or composing, Peter is a Musical Director at the Second City Training Centre, and a regular narrator on the podcast StarShip Sofa. Some of his other recent activities include Musical Direction for the improvised musical Gleeks, design and production of a multimedia installation called "Babel" in London Ontario's 2010 Nuit Blanche, and an appearance on the CBC Kids show Razzberry Jazzberry Jam, where he taught a group of children about the theremin.
Peter lives in Toronto with his wife and a ferocious cat.
